The Biggest Crypto Exchange Heist

A few days ago, Dubai-based exchange Bybit announced that they lost $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum after a hacking attack on their exchange. It is estimated that around 400,000 ethers were the target of hackers, who managed to break the exchange’s security levels.

This is the biggest crypto theft we have heard of in recent years and perhaps a reminder to all of us about the risks involved in keeping our money on an exchange.

Bybit CEO Ben Zhou stated that customer deposits are safe and there is no reason to worry. The exchange will already run a compensation program that will be covered by the company’s portfolio as well as bridge loans from partners.
