Τhe Digital Euro in the Last Mile

The cooperation between European Commission and ECB is expected to bring more issues on the table to be solved as the development of digital Euro will start this summer.

The Digital Euro will be created as a complimentary tool for cash while payment solutions will be developed from the private sector, for better adoption. In previous statements, ECB had announced that the project will start at mid 2021.

The common announcement from European Commission and ECB shows that the main concern among citizens is the privacy. This issue brings more topics on the conversation with political, legal and technical aspects to be addressed.

As Christine Laguard has told, in the next 5 years Eurozone will adopt a fully digital version of Euro.
