Power Plants in Iran Can Mine Bitcoin From Now On

According to the Iranian Ministry of Energy, power plants in Iran can now develop crypto mining activities, included in their main activities.

Mining activity is not illegal in Iran but it needs a special process for starting a mining farm as a legal business entity. Mining is a rather popular activity in Iran as the electricity rates are very competitive, especially the industrial rates (which are used for crypto mining) range from $ 0.01 to $ 0.05 per kWh.

At this moment, there are 14 mining farms in Iran, with an average consumption of 300 megawatts per farm. The entrance of large power plants in the mining field will add new players that will raise the difficulty in any crypto network.

This move could be a part of Iran’s strategy to claim properties in the new digital fields that will dominate in the new era that arrives.
